The wife and I closed on our house Thurs afternoon. Everything in the house is fine, but the dishwasher has a nasty, musty smell. We tried running a cycle with a bottle of vinegar poured in. No luck. So we tried leaving some baking soda in it overnight. Still smells. We have ran a few loads with plain dishwasherer detergent. Does anyone know of a product we can use to get rid of this nasty odor?

You need a can of hairspray and a lighter.

I’m embarrassed to admit I didn’t know there was a filter. I will check it out. Thanks!

We just cleaned the filter, sprinkled baking soda, and placed a dish of vinegar on the top rack. Did the trick.

Yeah, underneath the turntable piece, there is a trap that can get nasty.

I know ours does that and I'm pretty sure we did a cycle with vinegar. The main thing is we have to leave the door open after every cycle so it can dry out and not trap that moister in the unit.

Over the past week or 2 I tried everything to get the smell out. Nothing worked. The thing smells so bad it stunk up the entire kitchen. The filters and drains were totally caked with a brown slime it was nauseating. Luckily my brother in law works for lowes. We got a new dishwasher that has since been discontinued. Brand new 800$ dishwasher for 349$.

wow!
I was about to give you a tip, but see you had to make that purchase.

When we bought our new Bosch we went with the full stainless inside to avoid this.

Mind sharing the tip? I haven’t installed the new one yet.

You can do a vinegar, rinse just put a bowl of vinegar in the washer and start. Same with baking soda in the dispenser and a few drops of essential oils (I like lemon or a citrus) in a cup.

It’s the food trap.
