love the pace that they put out albums. No Boston or Portland show, though.

Umphrey’s McGee launches into 2018 with a new album and an extensive tour to celebrate 20 years as a band. it’s not us, our 11th studio release, drops January 12th. And we are coming to a town near you to celebrate the occasion.

Over 2,200 live shows, ten studio albums, and 20 years as a band can teach you a few things. You seem to like it when we come play the Beacon Theatre in January, so we will take up residency in New York to celebrate our birthday on January 19th, 20th and 21st. Our actual birthday falls on January 21st, never miss a Sunday show, especially this one. We’ve also found that two nights of UM are way more fun than one, so look for double-headers in Cincinnati, Philly, Kalamazoo, and Asheville. We’ll be joined by some killer special guests along the way, so stay tuned for more info.

That Penns Peak place is cool. I've always wanted to see a show there.

No tracks yet, no idea if any songs were played live. I have not seen them since January.

Just got an email. They linked to a tour announcement video but the link was bunk.

There's a tune called Draconian that I hope is on there. Really cool darkish composition with sections set up for improv. Really liked it--it's on the MT show they put on Spotify. Glad they are swinging through Columbus again!

Couldn't tell you the last time I heard an Umph album, so that part doesn't excite me, I am however glad they're coming back to Asheville again. I wonder who they'll tap to open that run.

I think they make very good albums and do a good job of separating album style vs live styles of songs. I'm a fanboy though.

I'm stoked for Asheville again. They've killed in the last two years here!

So their birthday tour doesn't include Indiana or Illinois days. Yeah makes sense.

Ha. I've always wanted them to play star plaza. I know that they opened up for Bela fleck there back like 18 years ago but never since.

Since they're not coming to Atlanta, I think a few of my friends might have some interest in traveling for that one.

They'll likely announce more shows after Hulaween since there's no way they're coming to Florida for just one show.

new video. and they put in the last sentence that they are giving away merch at the website. I took a look but saw no such thing.

Quote:
Oh, hello there. We just dropped a music video for "The Silent Type," the debut track off our upcoming album, it's not us. Seen through a first person mixed reality lens, the video finds our protagonist swept up in a wild night out where the lines of what's real and what's artificial begin to blur. The frenetic-paced video matches the dark energy of the tune as it takes you through a wild night in Chicago, ladled with temptation, amplified by soon-not-to-be futuristic technology.

Created with our friends at Reel FX - the guys and gals responsible for the Augmented Reality 2016 Red Rocks Poster, and forthcoming AR vinyl in the it's not us LP- the passenger is on a wild ride, all while paying homage to the city where Umphrey's McGee cut our teeth. Be sure to check out the interview with Brendan Bayliss and Joel Cummins in Forbes as they discuss the video, the album and wild nights that inspired the song.

Psst- while we have you, head on over to merch.umphreys.com where we're basically giving away free merch (basically). Happy hunting.

Their marketing style has always really irked me. It's very "in your face" and tries too hard to be funny and cool, imo.

Do enjoy some UM though, had a good time when they came to Stl. New song is kind of lame though.

Ok, that's all I have to say about that (Forrest Gump)

i agree

I only heard the song once when it came out and the lyrics kind of grabbed me as cringeworthy

I just miss the old school bangers like Soul Food I, Much Obliged, Sociable Jimmy, etc.

Their new style, the style of the last few albums really, doesn't draw me in.

Most of BB's lyrics lately are kind of weird and depressing. Kind of a drag- every song is like "you wronged me," or "things are bad" etc.

I like the song a lot actually. The video is very cheese. It might have been better without the girl, as cute as she is. It just seems awkward.

I do like the track though.

I like the track. I also like that UM does their studio thing separate from what they do live--not trying to recreate live moments. That's where a lot of live bands go wrong and why their albums blow. I'm also glad they constantly evolve--whether I dig it or not someone will and perhaps I'll dig what they do next.
Hoping at some point they get Draconian into the studio as that is a very cool song.

The song is so so but watching the video made me feel nostalgic. I have not thought about the store til 4 in years. Used to hang out with the band there, and remember a time that we went to the green mill with Andy. And sparky...

I wonder who got the fish tank when they moved out of that house? I spent hours staring at that thing after the 2.02.02 Park West show

A quote from Bayless on this album...

Quote:
'it's not us' has finally arrived and we are stoked to finally be able to share it with all of you. I feel like we’ve really honed in on the songwriting on this one. We’ve really focused on being more concise and trimming the fat. We take a lot of pride in it. Thanks for taking the time to give it a listen, we know you've got a lot of options.

So the short songs was deliberate.

My favorite songs on the album are all over 6 minutes.
