I rented the 1955 one from the library cause I've never seen any productions of it. While googling I found there was a 1995 one set in 1930's alternate universe fascist Britain. That sounds cool as fuck. And it got great reviews.

Anyone seen it? Should I check it out?

Is that the one with Ian McKellan? Kind of a quasi-fascist alternative history, sort of pre-WW2-ish setting?

I always joke that the first scene of that movie feels like it should be a Ranier Wolfcastle movie. When Richard climbs down from the tank, walks over to the prince or whoever, takes off the gas mask, and starts unloading. Every shot fired, another letter pops up on the screen. R-I-C-H-A-R-D I-I-I

I always thought it could have just as easily been M-C-B-A-I-N

I remember not living that one as much as a lot of people did. Watch it, i mean. Richard III is one of my favorites and this film gets a lot of praise.

If you like that aesthetic, check out the Macbeth with Patrick Stewart from a few years ago. It’s pretty great.

Both the McKellan R3 and Stewart Macbeth are awesome, and you should watch them.
