Not saying it’s wrong. Saying for most people (not all) our age, it’s risky and completely unnecessary (especially with respect to the amount of effort required.)

i can see where the CF hate comes from and it does, in fact, wreak major havoc on your body. It was designed after a military style fitness regime, ironically, the marines or Army just changed their fitness tests to a CrossFit one.
The sense of community is awesome but with that comes the sense of competition and that’s where people get in trouble. The whole, “no man left doing it alone” theory it has can cause problems when people try and go beyond their ability because they are being cheered on/pushed gently- in some cases, not gently or want to finish within an “acceptable” time frame. There is a fine line and not all CF gyms are good at defining it.

We modify the shit out of workouts for people of all levels. Including those with shoulder injuries. It’s always low weight or no weight. Those that do it RX are acknowledged and those that don’t are encouraged to try harder. It’s how i f’d my knee up. Damage was there but I pushed it because I felt an obligation to my “friends” to try a little harder. It happens easily to people.

My ortho said it best when he said, the question isn’t does CF cause damage, the question is when.

Not that I get high any longer but I like exercise I could theoretically do while I was high as hell. Hence my love of hiking, kayaking, yoga and the like. I've never smoked a J and though man I could do some lunges right now.

bullshit.

making the lights go out is part of what makes it fun. don't you watch those michelob ultra commercials ?

I'm not going to sit back in gear 7 and spin 90 while doing the Tour of Sufferlandria. When it comes time to drop the hammer, you gonna stand up, mash those pedals and punch it.

walking across the street is a risk, living in a city is a risk. I get more freaked out about those than keeping my HR @ 180+ for 15 mins.

if us old guys in our 30s and 40s can't show the millenials what it means to put in some effort in life, then who will ? certainly not their "participation trophy" parents.

Now get off my lawn !!!!!!

I used to get insanely high before CrossFit. It was the only way I could force myself to go. The teacher liked to flirt with me and would call me out & I would laugh in his face.

I exercise but sont eat well and just started doing more cardio. I am probably 15 lbs fatter than I should be, but oh well. And I would love to do CrossFit but I already have a bad knee and messed up rotator cuff that might be torn so no CrossFit, which bums me out because I would love the comradely and need some more accountability, plus I’m competitive and like to win all the time. So that would me good motivation. I think I exercise more for my mind than my body anymore

I'm at this point as well. It's almost like meditation. I can also throw in that I like doing physically active stuff and waiting to do something physically active without exercise prior is exhausting and no fun.

I agree with the meditation part. Love throwing my headphones on and doing my thing. I’ve learned over time that form is more important than weight and also have to make it enjoyable. And if it hurts I stop doing it. No ones gonna feel sorry for you hurting yourself working out, they just think you are an idiot

Just about any upper body strength training is going to need solid shoulders.

We do a lot of kb swings, and overhead stuff. I'm not sure how you would modify. I bet you could figure something out tho.

My CrossFit coach taught us the power of kettlebell swings should come from the hips rather than the shoulders. Same with snatches, kipping...

There is nothing greater than the in the zone headspace when you're exercising imo. Like when you're on a run and just hit that chilled out brain wave and cruise.

Bonus points when I'm out skiing/jogging on a nice trail through the forest

you know there's this thing called yelp right ?

85th, across from that mall. fuck if I know exactly, i tend not to go places that require a bridge or tunnel. somewhere in northlake.

OAC is perfect if you are looking to find tech bros. or tech dads (divorced) hoping this startup helps them recover their amazon stock they lost in the divorce.

I don't exercise. But before I wrecked my motorcycle 3 years ago I was active enough to be and remain healthy. Then I got put on my ass for 6 months. Since then I have not returned to the level of cardio I would get from the occasional 2 to 4 mile run I would do with a buddy that does it regularly. I dont even play golf anymore.

The ONLY thing keeping me from being sedentary is being a father of an only child. I HAVE to run sometimes. I jump on the trampoline with him. Many miles of walking are achieved by going to our excellent zoo I have been a member of for many years. And tons of other things like carrying him on my shoulders when he can't finish some trek we've embarked on.
Hes saving my health a great deal. I thank God for my son.

Wouldn't you agree having experience with barbell lifts is important? Jumping into Crossfit with no proper squat, DL or clean experience is probably not as beneficial for someone who doesn't know proper form etc, which can take weeks...

It is the fastest growing fitness trend of all time though.

start timing yourself coming and going. see if it improves.

also track the beers. Maybe you walk faster when you only pee after beer 3, and then have 5 more.....

The shit my coach makes me track when I ramp up once a month is hilarious.

She literally had me weigh myself before and after shits for a week, just to see how I was digesting and using fuels.

What have I missed in this thread while I've been working?

Y'all arguing about crossfit? I find it lol funny and dangerous but it seems to really work for some people. Good for them. Seriously. If it works for you why not do it? But if it doesn't you probably shouldn't.

As for myself, I need to run for no less than three hours or bike for six hours to feel like I got a good workout in.

That is what works for me. Everyone is different. But what remains the same is that regular exercise is good. Do what is right and safe for you.

It feels good to feel good.

No question. A good gym will make sure you're doing all of that right before letting you have at it. Our coach will work with new people until they are comfortable to be on their own.

Main reason why I can’t wait for my pool to be done (and for it to be spring so it can be used).

I can’t do public pools. I just can’t. They freak me out. When I think I can, I try and see hairs and gross things floating. For some reason, at hotels, I’m ok because I’m most likely not treading or possibly swallowing it but at exercise places? I just can’t. Plus I look over and see the older folks doing water aerobics and just imagine all the pee.

I can’t either. When I swim laps I get pissy when I have to share a lane and the water aerobics grandmas and their perfume permeating the water...hork. I have always dreamed of owning a pool. I have always wanted to get one of those belts so I could do water running.

yes, but I doubt I will ever do it daily

however, going to the gym 3-4 times a week is a huge thing for me because my entire life up until about 2 years ago I hated the gym. not sure what will happen next year when I am living in a new country (right now my gym is a 15 minute walk from home and a 5 minute walk from school)

as for my weigh, yes I am happy with it. I have a beer belly, but I love beer and drink it almost every day so I will more than likely always have a beer belly. I'm just thankful that after the physiotherapy sessions I did my knee is finally feeling better (after I had the surgery it didn't really feel right)

I am fairly active, and pretty happy with my weight and overall fitness. I try to ride my mountain bike 2-3 times a week, and I ride to work 1-2 days a week. I am also very active at work since I have been working as a bike mechanic. I walk the dogs twice a day too. I wish I had more time to take them out into the woods. I have also been riding the BMX bike with my son at the skatepark, and I am usually pretty beat by the time we are done.

I want to start swimming soon. Love being in the water

I want to try that too! I can’t picture it at all but I think it could really satisfy my desire to get back to it. That and laps. Laps really are a great total body workout.

Power walking until I fell on my head. Started up again. Much slower pace for now. Need to rebuild my stamina/confidence...

I'm pretty sure I'll be getting a helmet for Xmas. Concerned family

Am thinking about trying p90x, anyone do it? Im looking at the lean program. I need to do something new. I do cardio 3-4/week for an hour or so(eliptical and arc step or bike), and lots of bodyweight resistance stuff. Been doing alot of planks as well. My fitness level is up but i cant seem to shed the rest of my former fatass self. Still have excess skin/fat to lose and its a slow battle. Conaidering those body wrap things to see if they help.
