I'm pretty happy with my health overall. I'm active and my health metrics are all pretty good. Had a bit of blood pressure problem, but have that under control these days. Sometimes I feel like I could use to lose some weight, but I don't focus on it too much. I've long since accepted that I am never going to be a particularly thin person.

I could def stand to cut some more beer and sugar from my diet. Sweets are my weakness for sure

Posting this while eating a donut. :?

At CDA I exited the water in 969th place
after bike I was 699th
after marathon I was 527th.

I passed 270 peeps on the bike. thats about 2.5 peeps per mile
Took down another 172 on the marathon. About 6.5 peeps per mile.

It's about being comfortable in your pain cave. then repainting it, moving the furniture around, maybe adding a couch or loveseat, bringing in a new chiffarobe or davenport......

If I was going to get back into it and do weights 3x a week...what would be the best way to split up body parts for effectiveness?

Back/bi

Legs/lower body

Shoulder/chest/tri

?

Box
Snatch
Power snatch
Thruster
Clean and snatch- or as I like to call them - clean your snatch.

I make fun of something about it every time I’m there.

same. been drinking a ton of IPA's lately and that won't help shed unwanted lb's.

would love to get back into swimming but there's no indoor pool that's either a)reasonably priced or b)close to my office or home

I’m kidding. I’m not going to make fun of CrossFit. Those people work their asses off (which is basically the foundation of my issues with the workout).

I'm no swimmer so you have me beat. Good for you.

But I don't drop and I live in the pain cave. If you want to have a dick swinging contest my longest bike ride to date was 65 hours and 51 minutes...

I'm curious as to why....I'm sure the response will be some sort of "it's all muscle heads and dbags" but really my class is made up of guys and girls from all walks of life. We all go through hell 3x a week and are really good friends. It's been one of the best things I've done since moving to colorado.

I always say that if you move to a new area, or are just looking to make some new friends, joining CrossFit is one of the best ways to do it at any age. My gym has such a strong community. I don’t partake in it because I’m not looking to make any friends but they all hang out, they go places together, celebrate birthdays and their families, etc. they do a crazy good job of running fundraisers, too. We had two members die unexpectedly and the gym really came together for them. It was amazing.
It really is a nice sense of community. It’s also a phenomenal way to get a total body workout done quickly.
I just think the names of the moves are hysterical.

Well i have reason 1. Dbag across the street from me was running crossfit out of his garage and had peeps running up and down alleys, parking all over the place, trashing the block. Finally the block had to file a cease and decist against him and his "company".

I used to make fun of it, but it's actually pretty cool that it's a tight community.

Now I make fun of all the people who do tri's and have to put the stickers on their cars. :)

how about license plate frames ? your opinion on that ?

also front or rear for the frame ? I like the front so they can see me catching up and eventually passing. Other prefer the back so it's easier for the fats to see in parking lots.

Another positive is the Owner at my place always fills the coolers with amazing local beers for the taking. He just asks you just take one to try. But members are constantly filling it with random beers from all over. It’s pretty sweet.

Yeah, I look at those stickers with jealousy. I would brag like a mother fucker if I accomplished a full tri. Iron man peeps get tattoos. That’s probably one of the few reasons I would ever get one.

for clarification....crossfit would fuck my shoulder up, right? swinging kettle bells and going straight up over my head with a bar are risky actions...are there no modifications? i cant possibly be the only injured person wanting to participate, do they offer alternatives? even if i didnt join a crossfit gym, those seem like worthwhile exercises.

Just squat, deadlift and press. Add weight everytime you go. Check your form, see a coach to make sure you do them correctly. Get strong. Prosper.

Just about any upper body strength training is going to need solid shoulders.

We do a lot of kb swings, and overhead stuff. I'm not sure how you would modify. I bet you could figure something out tho.

I'd consider going to see a PT

I had a lingering shoulder injury and mine gave me a lot of advice on how I could still lift without fucking it up worse

I owe myself 2, probably 3 soon. but can't take 2-3 weeks off from swims to let them heal.

My friend Mary Beth has done 40 fulls. her back is covered.

CrossFit people are great - especially in business since they are always so self-motivated.

CrossFit is a workout for Marines though. Its for people who want peak physical fitness. High intensity, high impact, high risk - and not a workout you’ll be doing into your sixties or seventies. People are always getting hurt and banged up. Most shouldn’t be doing it at all (especially those who just want to get in shape or look good naked) and with a different workout could accomplish so much more with so much less effort.

Yes. 3-4x weekly at the gym. Some days come easier. Others I leave in silence and cry in the car. I won’t give up.

Ahhh...the contempt prior to investigation.

For me, I feel better doing Crossfit than with my previous workout. Before I ever did it, I always THOUGHT most of the things you posted. For me they haven't been true. I tend to do a lot more reps with lower weight. My body feels better.

We have people working out well into their 50's in our class.

It's certainly not for everyone, but it's also certainly not a marine workout for a select few.

OK so the premise was flawed. It's not like I do this for a living. It just passes the time. I honestly don't know how they solicit members. I figured it was the same way as Baptists or Mormons.

Yes. 3-4x weekly at the gym. Some days come easier. Others I leave in silence and cry in the car. I won’t give up.

I don’t know what makes you think I don’t have CrossFit experience. Nothing I just said is inaccurate.

You just told us in this thread that you do 95 pound lunges. That’s a lot of impact and pressure on one knee. Even at 45 pounds, you’re still not at “low weight.” I know your personal trainer taught you to max out so it probably feels low weight, but it’s not.

No doubt Croosfit is modified for ability, but that’s my point: too many people are doing a workout designed for elite athletes, working too hard, not getting the benefit for the effort, and then giving up - and now not working out at all. Too many who do stick with it, you would never know they even worked out by appearance. Granted, not the point of CrossFit, but fuck busting my ass and still looking out of shape. And yes, I realize this is not you.

It's certainly not for everyone...I have a good power / oly lift back ground. So maybe I just take well to it.

And no, I was never taught that heavier was better, but my squats were certainly well over 95 pounds.

It was wrong for me to assume you had no experience, it just what you're saying is mostly what I hear from people who have never done it. It's not my experience at all.

It took a lot of time for me to find a workout i liked that was actually beneficial.

Now if I miss a day of exercise I hate it. Need those endorphins.

Would play basketball 5x/week if I could.

What’s not your experience...that Crossfit is a high intensity workout?

(Squats not the same as lunges)

Are we far enough along in this thread to start making fun of CrossFit?

I'm curious as to why....I'm sure the response will be some sort of "it's all muscle heads and dbags" but really my class is made up of guys and girls from all walks of life. We all go through hell 3x a week and are really good friends. It's been one of the best things I've done since moving to colorado.

like.

I did CrossFit for a few months and decided it was not for me but I am pretty tight w. a few of the ladies from my classes at the gym. We shred, see live music & hit up happy hour together. Barre> bar on Friday's is fun. I like the sense of community.
