In family court this morning

Thu Dec 07, 2017 11:01 am

Making the separation officially official.
It’s a mere formality, but I’m nonetheless anxiety-ridden about it. I got the shakes and everything.

Heavy Shit Thursday

At least I took the entire day off.
Gonna go right home and have a morning drink.

Breathe. Try to stay calm.

What's going to happen is what's going to happen.

Best of luck.

Re: In family court this morning

I'm not sure what is going to happen to you but my separation/divorce in the end seems to be one of the best things that happened to me. It started a chain of events that led to a better life for me and my children. Never would have thunk it. In any case I certainly understand the anxiety that can hit you when something like a court date makes the real seem that much more real. And then you have the fear of what is going to or could happen. Chances are the worst you think could happen won't. It will be something you never expected. The reinvention process of a separation is always good for tragedy, boredom, comedy and so on. If you can stay centered in the moment you might even find that you enjoy a life that will soon be open to so much possibility.

Vibes bro!

It’s a legal necessity in SC-

We separated on 7/21, but it’s only now that we had a court date to make it legal in the eyes of the court. We are now, oh, I guess we’re no longer legally tied to one another (mostly for financial purposes).

After a minimum of one year’s separation we will legally file for divorce, then wait for a court date, then it’s over.

Yes, this is a step towards a better life.
There’s no real reason I was so anxious (we’re done, I’m having a bagel at my favorite place before heading on home).

The year thing is not required in PA, but I know its required in Maryland. Again south of the Mason Dixon Line, so "the south"

This!

I’m home, got two different art projects going (refinishing a cool old table with collaged parts of my old comic books, and a wall piece I’m making for my daughter for her room for xmas), gonna opt out the morning beer and have some quality art time (alcohol inhibits that, but tubes do not) make the most of my afternoon off.

Vibes man. Remember it's all about the kids. Make sure they know you both love them and it's not their fault. Fight to stay in their life. Encourage a relationship with their mom and you.

Uhg. It's a hard process that I hope gets your family to a better place.

Washington State the delay is 90 days.
1 year seems excessive.

I’m so sorry that you and your family have to go through this. My grandfather once said to me, that it fits best for your children, then it is best for yourself. I know you’re strong, and I believe in you.

One kid, 16 year old daughter.
She sees us both very regularly, there’s no tension in that area. The separation is amicable, uncontested, we both agree on everything, and our daughter is doing well with it. We have joint custody, although while I’m in a little apt she lives with her mom. It’s the most comfortable, least disruptive arrangement for now. I live very close.

When I get a house she’ll have a room, with her own furniture and stuff, and she’ll stay with me on a regular basis.

Not any more if there are no kids and you can agree on splitting property. That took effect literally a few weeks after my bf's one-year separation was over, which effectively doubled how long they were married. It was dumb
