Homophobia is the fear of homosexuals not the hate of one.
Im not scared of one or hate them either.

Side note i got a call from a scammer just a bit i go telling me the u.s. govt. Selected me and 1500 others to receive a 1500$ grant blahah blah bla etc. I asked them to just stop the speech and send me the cash. CLICK. They hung up.

I had just read this thread right before the call and after it i thought " would trump have and blatant foreigner/middle easterner handling IRS handouts". I thought not

Sorry you're all too busy calling people who hold the traditional view of marriage bigots (not just Christians BTW, not just religious people for that matter) to realize that your hatred for those people makes you bigots as well.

I’ve been crystal clear I’m not talking about individuals participating in monotheistic religion, I’m talking about the culture, business, institution of organized religion.

It’s been anti science, anti women, anti other religions, it’s been a tool to oppress people, control land and money....I mean it’s all there written down in history.

That’s not to say that there haven’t been remarkable, giving, kind individuals involved in it at all.

I’m saying that believing tales literally that are no different than Aesop, Grimms, Greek, Roman, Nordic etc.

It’s all mythology, and taking literally in 2017 is dangerous regardless of what religion you practice.

Not bigoted at all.

Take away the tool and they have to find another tool...there isn’t a nearly close to that tool to use for bigots, nationalists, fundamentalists, chauvinists etc.

Oh and saying same sex couples who want to marry and adopt or have kids shouldn’t because some scripture written when we thought the earth was flat is straight up bigotry....enacted to persecute...because well religion.

not to get in what you've got going with list, i dont really care - but, who is the arbiter of "true religion" - since the dawn of religion there's been interpretation of religion, there's no one true way. which is to say that the goobers and fanatics are just as correct in their justification as those who are more tolerant and useful with religion. and given that there's nothing concrete, they're either all correct or all incorrect, id sooner guess the latter. thats like saying judaism or hinduism or satanism is the one true religion - it's literally grounded in nothing.

Which is one of the problems all religions think they are the “true” religion...or tribalism which often turns into all kinds of horrible shit.

I get it balls you’re a good Christian and know a bunch as well...like we all do, family friends, coworkers etc.

Individuals...as an institution religion has been pretty harmful.

IMHO.

I deny services to people all the time. Maybe it's because they're gay, maybe it's because they're ethnic, maybe it's because I don't like them or the way they style their hair. But nobody will ever know because I just tell them I'm too busy to take on any more work at the moment. And they go find someone else to do their work.

Whole situation could have been avoided if dude wasn't trying to make his point. But I suppose his point is worth losing his business over. Fuck him.

White Christians using scripture to justify racism and lynch people that ride with King.

I mean like I said I’m not talking about individuals MLK would have been MLK without Christianity because he had had enough of seeing people abused and being treated as sub human...which is a narrative all religions have peddled since religion was created.

white christians also use scripture to raise tons of money for charity and do local projects and clothe and feed the poor

because there are a lot of liberals who are also christian, and conservatism is at the root of the stuff you are mad at

You know he was a minister right? And that all of his beliefs came from the Bible? You can't dismiss the role his faith played in his life.

I believe he was a great man that was raised in a specific manner by good people the same reason you’re most likely a great man, good husband etc. I think if religion didn’t exist you’d most likely both be pretty similar to who you became.

Cuz if you want to point to someone being good or decent because they preach for a living....that’s going to be a tough sell....

It's not THAT he preached, it's that he believed and practiced what he preached. And that was the teachings of Christ.

And I would be a shell of myself without my faith.

His affairs and womanizing come from the Bible. He believed it and practiced it. He was a terrible husband because of it

lol.

Shut the fuck up. These people do not have a "traditional" view of marriage.

Traditional marriage is one man and multiple wives/concubines.

We have already made that illegal. They believe in a more modern view of marriage than traditional, but not as modern as an intelligent person's view.

"Traditional" marriage is a buzz word used to justify the anti gay views of their god.

So, it's safe to assume you are against gay marriage?

1. its an absolutely stupid hypothetical to remove christianity from MLK's history
2. faith played a role in his life obviously, but you cant possibly go by "all of his beliefs came from the bible" - bit of a broad brush you're painting with.

MLK is not the best jumping off spot for the pros and cons of christianity. it's too complicated by being uniquely american, political, era-dependent, and singular.

im happy your faith is working for you though.
but you're doing exactly what people hate about religion and saying "it works for me, it must be objectively good and right and functional for the rest"

and yes, being against gay marriage does automatically make you a bigot.

Guess what Cheesy and teal aren’t horrible people raised by horrible people they are people raised by people enacting a culture where the guidebook was written when people didn’t understand lightning.

Yes, I am against gay "marriage." Does that automatically make me a homophobe/bigot?

Tell me how two gay people marrying impacts your life or your religion?

(Hint) you can't give a decent answer.

So that means yes. You are a bigot

Please be sure and answer my question

I would be curious about this as well. I've heard the "sanctity of marriage" BS excuse for years, but I have not heard any good reasons from these people about how gay people marrying impacts their life or their religion.
