terrible arena deal. Place is a POS with zero parking in a neighborhood already trashed with insane traffic. developer fucking handed the city a beautiful plan for an area next to our other stadiums, next to a lightrail line, and the city counsel is so stuffed with payoffs from the port that they gave that idea the bird went forward with this horse shit. A real fucking head scratcher.

With the conference imbalance I think it'll be an expansion team, which is what it is. Kinda wonder whether the NHL has enough high end talent for that many teams.

I'm not saying any of what you say isn't true, but from what I read they're basically tearing the place down and building a new arena in its place.

there’s no way to get down there. it’s a fucking mess. no public transport to it. just miles and miles of traffic and nowhere to park.

it really pisses me off they didn't do the SOHO deal or havent yet. I dont even give a fuck about sports. But seriously, a beautiful plan is handed to you and you're trying to put lipstick on a pig in what is one of the most god forsaken traffic ridden areas of the city that is a mile an a half from a light rail stop? When you could have built one a block from a stop? fucking D.U.M.B.

the best part is the Sodo stadium was completely paid for. no tax payer dollars would have been used to build it.

i’m not sure if the taxpayer will be funding this key arena renovation.

i'll def go to hockey and bball games if we get teams, but by god what a terrible plan. I'm the biggest seattle center fluffer i know to. I love that area, I want it revitalized, but there's no where to put all those people.

it's going to cost so much money to figure out how to get cars to move through there on game days. It already takes 15 minutes to go three blocks on mercer

I'm thinking this team could be playing in the league by the 20/21 season

Time to start scouting the top of the 2019 draft class

The Key Arena plan is an abortion. Absolutely hate it.
At least it is a completely new arena, built under the old roof. I don't see them pulling it off for $650m though.
Chris Hansen's idea was SO much better. And couple that with the multiple music venues at the Seattle Center it was a Win Win Win!

It looks like the NHL put their payola in the right hands. And I won't complain, except when I'm sitting in traffic.
But coming from Ballard the Ubers can get in pretty quickly and cheaply.

I was under the impression that after Vegas it was Kansas city next in line. New team there and move the yotes to Seattle

i’m glad for the city. and for hockey fans. but man, the city council looked a gift horse right in the mouth on this one.
just insane not to take that deal and cater to the ports wanting to continue having their private parking road.

I'd like to see Drew Doughty and Erik Karlsson both sign with the 'squatch when they hit free agency in a couple years.

No way KC gets a team. Seattle is first up, next would either be Houston or Quebec City

Seattle is such a natural fit for an NHL team. It’s surprising they don’t already have one. I hope they go with the Sonics’ old color theme.

They wont.

Anything cool or fun you think can be done w/ this, I can guarantee the NHL will find a way to ruin it.

Give it some lame name
awful jersey
shitty expansion roster
etc

But, still, pro hockey. The Seattle/Vancouver rivalry could be kick ass.

Other names bantered about

Seattle Freeze

Seattle Justice Warriors

oh and fuck all you haters. I would kill for them to bring back the Totems

we have 3 different colored bike rental companies in the city. take them to the game (ha).

or even better. Take the Monorail.

I can take the 11 to the ocho. from the gym a couple different rapid rides work too.

I have a feeling weekday games will be a lot easier for tickets.

and yes, it would have been way better to put this thing down in Sodo.

Call them the Totems would be pretty borderline. Actually not even borderline, it would be pretty bad

But this is a league where that Chicago Blackhawks logo is a thing, so I wouldn't be surprised at all

Even leaving my personal objections to the Blackhawks logo aside, I'm not sure it'd crack my top 5 NHL logos tbh

junkbondking wrote:

I guess that's true. I don't really feel like it's the same, but I'd also be fine w/ renaming the Canucks for consistency's sake because it doesn't make any difference to me what the team in Vancouver is called

I liked the last Canucks game I went to. The Leafs still suck too.

Sasquatch is probably going to win, which is ok, but goaddam if Freeze would be awesome. The Seattle Freeze is real....

The Canucks are surprisingly watchable this year. Boeser looks like he will be a hell of a player, though I think he's been a bit overrated in the Calder race thus far. I like Horvat as well.

and yeah, screw the Leafs.

I concur. In it's present state it is useless as tits on a boar.

however, if they ever put it on the pass and this arena gets done, It instantly becomes a viable option for folks coming from south or east of DT.

the ocho just sucks because it is stuck in traffic a lot.

Been riding this arena train for awhile. Through the team being stolen and the king's coming here to this. I'm pumped for pretty much a guarantee that a nhl team is coming. Still the location and the handling by the city council is insane. The sodo street vacation missed by one vote. This will only add to the clusterfuck of traffic. Hansen offered to fund/ the key into a music/arts only venue along with paying for the new arena and overpass. It's baffling.
