Let's get together and go camping, phook! Last summer balls, coriswrasse and myself did a fun little overnight backpacking trip and we should plan another adventure for 2018.

This time instead of backpacking I think we should reserve a private group campsite and do some car camping. The place I have in mind is the Wash Creek Horse Camp in the North Mills River area of Pisgah NF. It is about seven miles from the Ingles in Mills River and holds 30 people. It is very close to the Trace Ridge trailhead and Bear Branch trail goes right by it. Plenty of options for day hiking, mountain biking, trout fishing and horse riding (if anyone actually has a horse). Both the mountain biking and fishing are truly world class. It is also pretty close to Sierra Nevada and Blue Ghost brewery. It is private and gated so we would have it all to ourselves and could rage all night if we felt so inclined.

The only potential issue is that it is two miles up a gravel road that is sometimes closed during winter. The gate is open right now but that can change so I would suggest we wait until spring. Chances are by March the road will stay open. If we wanted to go before then we could see about getting White Pines group camp near Brevard. It is more popular and tends to book fast whereas Wash Creek is rarely used.

Anyway, who is interested? We have plenty of time to plan and I'll be sure to bump this thread.

I am.. bookmark the thread and you can bump it from time to time. I'll bring my guitar and lack of any musical talent but if someone can play a guitar will be there.

Awesome! Interest already!

I should add that I am up for whatever - the group campsite is just an idea.

Picking a date will be the tricky part but we will get it figured out.

Yep. I was also thinking we could do Friday and Saturday so people could show up whenever and come and go as they want.

Okay. Let's start talking dates. I'm ruling out the weekends of 2/16, 3/3, 5/6, 5/20...

I'm all about 5/20, but assume this isn't a family thing? I have already hit up the grandparents for husbands 40th birthday, Dave Rawlings and a few other things... So I am running out of favors.

I don't know if it is a family thing or not. I don't have kids so I won't be bringing any... I'd say it is up to you. There is a slight chance there will partying (I already got a jar of shine and a jar of shrooms for the occasion) but I bet you could find a quiet spot to set up a family camp.

These group camps have a vault toliet (usually clean) and a well (turned off when freezing).

I am likely out for 5/20.

I'm going to follow along and see if husband and I could make it work another time, asking the grandparents for another favor. I can do colder weather without the kids. I'd prefer not to have them with me. ;)

im in. i dont know what you'd think about this. but i love the hot springs campground for car camping parties, we do it pretty regularly. just because in combo with your car camping weekend you can add in hot tub sessions, massages, walkable trips to the bars and restaurants in town, paddling, etc.

actually your idea is prob better. due to the raging all night factor. they come around in hot springs around 11 and start making people STFU.

anyway i'm in!

Yeah, I think a private group campsite might be better. I was hoping to come up to Hot Springs this weekend for Fin Dog but the cabins are sold out :(. Still might go though.

So, reading comprehension people. 5/6 and 5/20 will not work for me.

How about April?

Maybe? I'd need to check their schedule. KOA is the place to camp for their shows - a different experience from the National Forest.

I think we are driving up (and back) for Saturday's show too.

As for camping y'all figure out a date & if it works for us we'd be down.

Yeah true that and they don't have any spring shows announced as of yet. Keep this thread bookmarked because I am interested in this. I might even bring Oldschool so he can Irish Goodbye us.

Good time of year here in NC, these work for me. Tuck Fest at the White Water Center in Charlotte is the 4/20 weekend, music Thursday to Sunday.

Sorry for the lack of clarity. I am so close I take it for granted.

It is a 500,000+ acre National Forest in North Carolina.

It is 15 minutes south of the Asheville airport, so however far that is. An hour and a half?

https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/nfsnc/r ... ecid=78593

https://www.reserveamerica.com/camping/ ... 09584#sr_a

It is now reserved for 4/27 :(. But is still available for 4/14 :). These sites get reserved well in advance. If we want to do it we should go ahead and book it.

Are we ready to book? What does everyone think?
