Yea. Current house has one. Old house did not mainly because I didn't want to install one.

Thinking about putting one in. What do you like about it?

It grinds up your wife’s meatloaf?

Easier while food prepping. Chopped veggie bits just go in the sink

I'm actually installing a new one this weekend. Other than the car-Jack pro tip does anyone have any advice?

We've always had one. Funny thing is most of the garbage goes into the trash. I guess neutral...

Good luck. One thing I do remember is that when our old one died we had to re-arrange the plumbing to make the new one fit. More of a job than I imagined. Also, keep an Allen wrench handy for when it seizes up.

< not sure if that applies to the newer models >

I don't compost so it's nice to put organics down them.

No potatoe skins or meat

If you have a dishwasher make sure you take the dishwasher plug out!

Yea.

We don't compost either so its nice to be able to scrape the plates into the sink instead of the trash.

I highly recommend the Waste King brand over Insinkerator or Badger. All stainless, no plastic. More power for your buck, very quiet, and iirc they carry a good warranty.

"Insinkerator" is noisy as hell. Probably why we don't use it much.

Yay

The house we bought had one but the last owner took it with them for some reason. There was some stipulation in the loan or with somebody saying we couldn’t get the keys until we had a new one installed.

I compost and rarely use the disposal for food, but I couldn't imagine not having one.

I have an insinkerstor, but sprung for the more expensive model. Lowe’s has them on display and you can hear their noise level.

replacing the two disposals we have in the kitchen has been on my list for quite a while now

you really do get used to going without, but haven't forgot how nice it is to have them

I'll be getting stainless steel models next time

You must have an awesome chef type kitchen. 2 disposals & all ;)

Me? Just happy if the microwave and the toaster oven work.

I'll just be happy to get a microwave, most likely later this year, once I've moved

Rookie mistake: don't put eggshells in a garbage disposal. People seem to believe that's going to be fine. And don't run water while it's ON.

we have a pretty large kitchen..... probably almost 250 square feet

it was one of the biggest selling points when we bought the house
