Just got a ping that a hiring manager is interested in talking to me about a job there. Just wondering what it’s like? Should I even consider it?

I've never actually hung out there, so don't really know the town vibe... but if you like the outdoors, you've got a shitload to do within a few hours drive.

The clothing company Marmot started out there... that's about the extent of my knowledge.

I've never been but it's kinda isolated, super white, western slope small metro area.

Besides it's access to Moab and surrounding natural beauty, I'd guess it doesn't have much going for it.

I'd probably not even bother if I were you.

Do it.

It's more republican than the front range but not as expensive. skiing is much easier without the 70 shitshow.

Summers are hotter, and it is windier there.

Fruita is an awesome town too.

It is right by Palisade... which is Colorado wine country. I don't think I've ever actually tried any wine from there though. I assume it sucks (but i could be wrong).

It's probably the worst city on the Western Slope. And 4 hours from Denver.

Hard pass.

friends got married there like 12 years ago. good times.

awesome mtn biking, and great fishing.

it will cost a shit load to fly in/out of there, or take a day to get to denver.

you can amtrak to denver or slc.

I would ski aspen if I lived in GJ

Exactly - so it's not a benefit

hour and a half on that part of 70 is way better than the hour and a half from denver -> a basin.....

but if Op doesn't ski then it dont matter.

I have a hard enough time with gravity. I don’t need to add slippery sticks strapped to my feet into the equation

it's western slope, so yes it is arid.

and there's a fair amount of oil & gas going on.

Colorado is big on xeric yards, we had one in denver for well over a decade.

Oil and gas explains why they need water quality folks.

Grand Junction is one of those places that people tout because it's cheaper than Denver, there's a lot of outdoor recreation, and it's near (or "not that far") from other places you might want to go (ooh, it's 90 minutes from Arches! a couple hours to either Aspen or Vail! 2 hours from Dinosaur NP!). I've never heard anyone make a strong case for the city itself. And yeah, the weather is hotter and drier than Denver in the summer (which is pretty fucking hot).

Stayed a night in Fruita this summer, it was quaint but not someplace I'd want to live unless I was a super-hardcore outdoor enthusiast.

east wash park is nice, friend of mine had a house on your same North-South block, just one street over on Vine

nice to be able to walk down to the shops and restaurants on S. Gaylord, or up to Bonnie Brae Ice Cream/Tavern/Saucy Noodle

prices are a little ridiculous though

Um, as awful as you all are making it sound it still has to be a step above South Florida, right? I mean I know Florida isn't all bad but Grand Junction is in Colorado and is close to a lot of outdoors stuff without a whole lot more...

menudo, none of those places are actually in grand junction

as I said, it would be a great place to live if you're a super-hardcore outdoor enthusiast, because yes, there's some phenomenal spots within an hour or less (certainly two), great mountain biking, rafting, trails, etc.

Oh, I know. I am headed that way at the end of next month. But IMO Grand Junction has a whole lot more, even without the water.

Grand Junction isn't an awful shithole like say Philly, but it's not a prime destination spot either
