I saw that STS9 is performing at Bonnaroo. It seems like after they split ways with Murph they’re finally getting back some of the traction they once had. I tried to find some info on David Murphy, their old bassist, and couldn’t find anything on him. He was THE dude in the band. Surprising that he simply vanished, unless he actually is working on something and I simply couldn’t find it online. Anyone have any idea what happened to him?

And that gofundme is depressing.

Dude got booted from sts9 now he wants to race motorcycles so he started a go fund me to earn 10 G’s.

He’s up to $400 so far. And that only took 13 months. He’s well on his way.

Was in a terrible band called seven arrows for a little while.

In an interview a couple years ago he trashed sts9 and said they were essentially only playing for the money and weren't pushing themselves musically for the fansx said the band didn't like him complaining about that. Was a good read.

seriously. dude spent 15 years in a pretty damn successful nationally touring band, that has their own label with other successful acts on it, cant pull together 5K?

The only thing that makes sense there is that treating cancer is hella expensive.

I'd be curious about this as well. I saw the GoFundMe a while ago and thought it was ridiculous. I would think that he has to get a cut of residuals from album sales and live show downloads from when he was in the band plus something from their label and their streaming service but maybe not.

honestly though, cost wise, medical bills/cancer drugs > drug habit.

also, bands arent known for having particularly awesome healthcare, especially after you quit the band....

Agreed that the lion's share almost certainly comes from touring, but I'd think there would still be a decent amount coming in from other sources, especially their label.

What does STS9 put out on their label besides their own music?

Can't imagine they make that much. I did see recently that they rolled out some sort of subscription service for their music.

your artists arent quite as big as bassnectar or pretty lights.

but that said, yea labels arent exactly money machines, especially when most of the sales are downloads and in a niche market.

I’m willing to bet they make peanuts off of their albums.

Even major acts on major labels are struggling to sell albums. Lol at thinking STS9 is making any kind of money off of album sales. I bet their album sales mostly cover their studio time.

additionally, whatever money they saw off that cannot be the same in 2018 that it was in, say, 2002.

I know little of STS9, but I always thought the drummer was THE dude in the band.

I was underwhelmed by Zach Velmer when I saw them recently. Not awful but certainly a one-trick pony. Bass and keys are the highlights in that band, imo.

I left unimpressed overall.

There was a big thread about them a few weeks ago.
Someone posted a vid from an all-acoustic show and it sounded better than anything I'd ever heard by them.

Actually a pretty solid roster, with some decent draws on there.

I love TAUK and JFJO, personally. I usually buy all of JFJO's stuff.

Only time I ever saw JFJO was in a 100 person jazz bar and I went overboard on edibles and exploded and had to leave. My wife was pissed.
