I mean, they have set a very high bar, and it was so loud in there is actually took away from it (man I sound old, but seriously it was)... let's see how wrong I was.

The last show of theirs I caught was late night at lock-in, which was just ridiculous. And many more Brooklyn bowl shows before that...

ETA
just finished first set and stand by my my initial thoughts. don't get me wrong, its not like its bad, but it is sloppy and guitar seems out of synch most of the set. poor for them, though they stand VERY tall. throwing stones gets hot and lands well, most of the rest of the set seems off to me... but its quite possible "its not you, its me"

I love that they did Gonesville, is that the first time? Have they done any other Blue Mountain stuff?

I love that this group of new bob tunes is sticking. I've heard a few bands cover Only A River already & every time he sits in with someone one of the new ones seems to pop up.

They raged it, thanks for posting that.

seeing them on the 8th & 9th in Boston and staying close by at a hotel. Really looking forward to it.

Saw Dead & Co at SPAC and was very underwhelmed. JRAD brings the heat.

Newish? The opening tune in the vid above, Gonesville, is off the album Bobby released last fall.

happy to share! This was the 2nd or 3rd time they've played it. I really like the Blue Mountain stuff too..I wish Bobby would have played more of it at Wanee last year instead of the Campfire band. Always love seeing Kimock, but the band as a whole was pretty meh

No, I liked the solo ( and duo ) acoustic parts of Bobby's show. It just didn't do much for me when he brought out the full band.
We left Turkuaz's high energy funk throwdown at the Mushroom stage and walked into quite possibly the slowest version of West LA Fade away I've ever heard. It was such a let down..lol

there was a whole thread a few weeks back dedicated to hating on them
Depending who you ask, they are either overrated, underrated or rated just about right (I'm in the just about right category )

Maybe try listening to them. They jam the hell out of the songs in a pretty unique manner. There is a reason for the hype regardless of the lack of original material.

To me they tap into the potential of live GD music like no other cover band. They have such a unique feel for the music, one might say they almost transcend what it means to be a cover band.

Since I like GD music and I like live music, I like seeing JRAD.

Seems dumb to gripe about it. Either go or don't.

I agree. But I have to disagree when people say they are better than the Grateful Dead were (I've actually heard that before).

When compared at their peak, it's obviously the Dead's game, but I saw a few shows toward the end that wouldn't hold a candle to JRAD. I think that's what most people are referring to when they say that they are better than the original. At least that's my perspective, but I also got to see the Dead 10x or so during their final peak years in 88-91. Someone that never saw them and are going on post-Jerry Dead music might have a different take on it though.

don't care that they don't play many shows, just wish they played in venues that are close to me.

What I love about JRAD is that they feel less like a "cover band" and more like a group of dudes who love playing together, and they recognize that it's better to come together to play standards that they all dig, rather than to try to reinvent the wheel and write a bunch of originals.

There's no back catalogue to go through or anything. Anyone who's familiar with the Good Old GD songbook can pop in, listen to some great musicians raging songs that we all love, and just enjoy the hell out of it. It's simple, and it's consistent.

I've never listened to a single JRAD show that wasn't somewhere between "really good" and "fucking sick." And mostly the latter.
