I've been on a funky Aretha kick lately.

Came across this cover of one of her songs:

I just ate 3 small pieces of pie. Pumpkin, Apple alamode, and peanut butter.

Now I'm sick

Do we have a regular post a picture thread?

Like not pets, selfies or sunsets?

The air quality is shit here in Hanoi which is the main reason I am leaving.

My face mask that I where when I walk to work (12-13 minute walk).

A new filter.

A filter after having walked in Hanoi for about 6 hours.

that's fucked cgriswald. is that a P95 mask? what are you trying to filter? just the random exhaust from petrol autos would make me want the P95 as a minimum.

my 64 year old mother lost her job today. i am beyond devastated for her - she needs / wants to work until 70. i can't imagine and i am just devastated. from many states away.

Yes, indeed it is fucked. Yeah, it is P95. The main problem here are scooters and construction. There is so much building going on. And almost everyone has a scooter. I just read last night (not sure if it's true) that 4 million people have moved to Hanoi in the past 2 years. I personally find that hard to believe, but who knows. What I do know is that I sleep with an air purifier on and always where a mask when walking or when I am on a scooter.*

*when the AQI is above 100

Really sorry to hear about your mom man. I hope she finds something soon! :)

Edit to say what kind of work does she do?

those pictures are so fucked if that is a P95 mask - that is what they filter. disgusting.

where are you moving to? there's so much movement and construction and bulge it seems in cities these days. it's so sad you have to wear a pretty high quality filter mask just to be outside and still get inside and be disgusted. unbridled capitalism.

jesus, good luck.

my mom is in commercial real estate. she should be retired though, if our system wasn't so fucked.

I am looking at cities in the center or south where it isn't so polluted (Da Nang or Saigon), also Taiwan, Thailand, and Japan. But, getting a decent paying job in Thailand and Japan is unlikely so more than likely it will be either somewhere else in Vietnam or somewhere in Taiwan.

Yeah, that is when the AQI is only in the high 100s. I remember there was an entire week when I was living in Beijing where it was over 400. India is horrific too. It's really sad and unless you are here and experience it is hard to comprehend. Some days I really truly do think this planet is fucked.

Again, sorry to hear about your mom. Living far away from my parents I understand how you feel. I mean, my mom didn't lose her job, but being far away when something goes wrong. Good luck man and I hope things turn out okay. :)

I thwarted another potential robbery by tapping on the window to scare the guy away - at 5AM

He was just checking all the windows to see what was inside
He rode off on his bike
I’m gonna throw rocks at the next one
