Just found out that a guy I went to rehab with, who had 9 months, relapsed and OD'ed last night. Feeling real bad for his family right now. He's the guy who got me to speak at the rehab about a month ago.

When you get tempted, just play the tape through. It might not always end quickly, like it did for Chris. There's a reason why you stopped. Most of the time it doesn't get better. I know it didn't for me.

Congrats to all of you guys with one more day under your belt. And bar, welcome back brother.

I don't think it was that. I don't know specifics, but that wasn't his go to.

Warpar and bar! Nice work gents!

Had a pretty vivid drinking dream last night. Thought I was starting from scratch this morning. :facepalm2:

Thanks peeps!
Love seeing everyone crushing it.

Frankly, it has been more difficult lately than it has in previous months. I've been pretty depressed ever since that Nazi bullshit happened in my town. Was really sad to witness it go down, sad to see how city officials handled it, both during & since (not good), sad to see our "administration" not give a shit... But I've stayed strong, thankfully. This thread has been a nice place of encouragement. Really, truly appreciate all of it.

And funny you mention the dream EE - I, too, recently had a vivid drinking dream. I woke up and was very relieved.

Some people have told me that a drinking dream is a good reminder and that maybe I needed it.

9 months today folks! Feeling very great today.

nice work EE that’s awesome and i’m stoked for you.

tonight is a huge test for my sobriety i guess. i’m going to a show and the venue has a bar that is pretty much unavoidable. i’m not worried about drinking but being around it will cause some anxiety i’m sure. at the very least i won’t be by myself. maybe i’m already thinking too much about this idk

Update from me

Had a relapse earlier in September. Was best man at my brother's wedding. I skipped the bachelor party to avoid temptation but skipping the ceremony was not an option of course. I am not naturally comfortable at public speaking, and this was a large formal wedding, so toasts were a huge source of anxiety. I thought I'd be fine but the night before I went out and got 375ml of vodka just in case. I started getting so nervous day of that I made a conscious decision to have a few drinks to get through it, not wanting to spoil the wedding (that was my reasoning anyway). This was followed a week later by a large group camping trip and I drank a fair amount there (I'd already broken the seal, my reasoning), as in I got pretty drunk.

I am back to sobriety, a little bit disappointed that I resorted to booze, but not beating myself up about it. I do not have a desire to drink again, but I need to be able to manage stressful situations. My counselor is helping me with some tools/strategies I can use, but I'm also going to talk to my doc about maybe having a very small prescription of benzos (maybe like 5 a month) so that if I'm having bad anxiety I'll have something to help me through it other than booze (not sure if that's a good idea, I know benzos are addictive, but I want to talk to him about it at least.

That's my update.

today i am 60 days sober

in the past week i have gone two shows in two different scenarios since getting sober and leading up to it felt like jumping a huge hurdle to do something that i love. after it was over i was able to reflect and see that it wasn’t even an issue really. it does get easier each day and i am very proud or myself

BluKarma ; It's sad to admit but I have never actually heard the band Phish ...or most of the bands posted about on this board for that matter....I hang my head in shame !

" Back in the Day " , I worked as an Investigator for City of Chicago. A guy I worked with was this old school hippie who did a lot of trading on this site . He kept feeding me copies of shows of all these bands I was into and he used the office printer/ mailer [ City Hall ] to weigh and mail out his packages ,so it was essentially free [ minus the cost of cd-r's ].....long story short , my X jumped on and then I followed her lead and here I am some 15 years later . :banana-guitar:

I don't have anything AGAINST most of these new bands OR jam bands. I'm just a child of the late 60's / 70's Classic Rock thang . My mis-spent youth was sitting cross legged on the floor at house parties in someones basement thumbing through Blues, Rock, Jazz albums . We is what we is !

How do you all get over the insomnia? I’m trying to get away from the booze & am having a hard time due to weird rhythmic sleeping cycles. I get close to REM, but a twitch or thought wake me up. I have always been prone to sleepwalking & nightmares, so drinking a little (or a lot) has helped.

insomnia plagued me in early abstinence from booze, I'd get some good sleep for 3 r
4 days in a row and then all the sudden go 3-4 days in a row with not much sleep at all, enough to make u feel crazy
started getting a bit better at maybe 6 months sober, around 1.5 years in is where I found pretty regular easy to come by sleep come....so aside from getting on drugs for sleeep which don't really address the real issue, it's just a matter of letting ur brain recover/return to normal. At least how it went for me, each person is unique obviously

Yeah, it went the other way for me. Can't sleep enough. So much so that I wake up feeling "hungover". Stopping drinking also lowered my blood pressure significantly, and I think that is the major cause.

i think stopping has helped my blood pressure as well. at least it was better than the past few years two months ago.
sleep has definitely been goofy for a while last winter. and now maybe once every couple weeks. i will wake at three or so and toss and turn for an hour or more.

My bp was fine to begin with so unfortunately mine is going low. The doc said that the drinking helped keep the blood volume up, and thereby pressure, so when I stopped drinking, and lost weight. My bp plummeted. Was having issues with passing out. He prescribed me salted nuts to help maintain pressure. Helped some.

Doesn't affect me at all. And I'm not going to ask her to stop doing something she enjoys because of my choice
