because the other thread is just bickering

10 years on the 24th of April. 1/3 of my life.

please, please do not post about other treatments, etc and turn this into a war thread. this is to give kudos/support for people staying sober/laying off weed/laying off booze or just generally trying to moderate their intake.

how is everyone doing lately?

Can't remember the last time I've felt this good. Best decision I've made in a long time.

Only place it's been hard adjusting is at work. Went to a social function at a conference last week and I made it about 25 minutes before leaving. I'm not as good with work-related small talk with strangers when I'm sober

it only really sucks for me when people are getting out into drunk territory. and it's becoming clear they are intoxicated and spewing bullshit.

then i wanna run.

I gotta go to another large conference next week (ugh) in Ohio (UGH). And I'm the only attendee from my company.

The events at night are gonna probably be brutal. Hopefully I can find a few good metro-parks when I'm there.

6 years.

Lots of good shit this last year. Feels like shit is starting to come back together. My last drunk was after I was (finally) fired from the best job I ever had. Worked there 12 years and really made a name for myself. Worked my way up. Last 3 years was a nightmare though. I ruined everything I built. They honestly had no business keeping me around as long as they did. 3 trips to rehab. Countless sick days. Terrible performance. But I was honest with them and the boss really believed in me. Finally it was too much though.

So I kinda ruined my connections and had to start over professionally. Several jobs that I was over qualified for, working my way back into where I am now. I'm finally back at a place I'm proud of and love and is back to the same money I was used to.

So anyway within the last year I celebrated 15 years of marriage to my best friend. I had a promotion, sold and bought a house, had a kid graduate high school with honors. Even decided to try to learn to play guitar.

I'm in a good place.

And fucking Dak Motherfucking Prescott. There fucking rainbows shooting out my dick life is so good

I like going to shows. It's kind of funny when someone starts talking to you and they are really drunk and they just smell fucking terrible like their guts are rotting terrible.

I went to Greensky a month or so a go and old weave and stagger stood next to me. Second song played was Frederico. About 3 songs later dude starts yelling play Frederico. I lean over and say bro that was like the second song played. He blinks incredulous. Takes a minute or two off and then starts yelling Frederico... play it... play Frederico. It was like his Mantra.

I agree. The frequency with which they play Frederico is becoming a problem.

I'm mean jeez guys, just play a real Paul Simon cover since Frederico might as well be one anyway.

I don't have bad hair days. I don't know why you think that is supposed to insult me.

You saying I'm having a bad hair day is like me telling you that you look skinnier.

Question regarding sleep after quitting. I sleep like the dead now, I mean so hard that I actually wake up feeling bad, worse then if I had been drinking hard the night before. Previously, whether drinking or not I would usually wake up around 6:30 feeling fine. Now if I don't set an alarm 9 could roll by and I could still be asleep and want more.
Anybody else encounter this?

9 years if I make to 9/9.

It's wild how my life has changed since.

I was the same way. When drinking I would be up 4/5:00 am. I needed a drink.

When I got sober, and even today, I hate getting up.

Well that's not really where I was at with drinking, but I can see how that would affect people

I sleep a lot better and have the fitbit data to prove it :)

I'm still up at the asscrack of dawn no matter what though, but I like it that way.

I sleep better unless I have shit on my mind. Once I take care of whatever is bothering me I go back to sleeping like a champ. I don't wake up feeling like rainbows but after about five minutes of moving around I feel great.

The big book specifically states that you shouldn't eat shellfish on days ending in Y.

It's probably a culmination of things, quitting drinking and the herb, working through some personal stuff, losing weight, low blood pressure, exercising more getting older.

also wanted to chime in that those who aren't necessarily in recovery, but are just cutting drinking out

i really appreciate how y'all are approaching it. having the mentality that "i may or may not drink again, but right now it feels pretty good to not" is essentially how i take it as well, even in recovery. i can always drink, just don't wanna right now in my life.

very, very awesome.

Thanks jbs, honestly didn't expect it to go this long. Not to discount anybody else's struggle, but it hasn't been to hard, I guess because it was a means to an end and I've seen positive results.

jbs, can you answer my question above? Is AA/12-step recovery an okay topic ITT? If so you might want to be more specific in your thread title.

congrats to everyone! just counted out my days - I'm on day 35

That's how I feel. I can probably go have a few beers with a co-worker, BUT, I'm probably better off not.
