be sad in the other thread
this is where we tell our awesome Coz stories

went to see KDTU @ The Independent in SF...gr8fulnfa was there, as were a few other phookers i can't recall right now. i'm standing in line at the bar and Coz comes up to me and tells me that he just scored a bag of coke. dude could score drugs in a fucking monastery. he pulls out a credit card and a dollar bill and his cellphone and dumps a bit of the coke onto his cellphone screen. right next to me while i'm in line. this is in the middle of the set - house lights are down and he can't see shit. so he walks about 30 feet through the crowd, over to the glowing light of the ATM with a pile of coke balanced on his cellphone. he crouches down and moves the cellphone right up against the screen so it's illuminated enough for him to cut up a proper line. he's in the middle of hoovering his blow when the security guard walks over and taps him on the shoulder and gives Coz the most WTF? look i've ever seen. the best part? he didn't get kicked out. he walks back to me, still standing in line at the bar, and says "he was like hey man you can't do that here". lol.

i have a few more but i just wanted to get this party started
LOVE YOU COZ

EDIT: i will go psycho fascist mod in this thread and will delete any post that does not celebrate Coz properly

I would have loved to have seen a show with him. I know that we were at a number of the same shows but...

I don't have any good stories. Never met him in person, but I know I shared the same space with him at countless Dead and Phish shows in the NE thoughout the 90s

First time coz was staying at my house we got some party favors and played cards until the wee hours. I finally passed out and when I woke up the next morning coz was still going. He re-upped. At my house. Through my friends. While I slept. Like a boss.

2011 in Tahoe after night 1. i was splitting a room with Coz on the CA side of the border. our group of people (many of whom are phookers who will remain nameless) either had a tank of gas or knew someone with a tank of gas or something. all i know is that there was a tank of gas involved, and Coz was chasing it. i mean literally chasing some dude walking through Harrah's casino with a tank of nitrous on his back (covered with a blanket, super discreet) like he's a fucking sherpa climbing Mount Blotto. we get to a room on the twenty-somethingth floor (which may have belonged to an unnamed phooker), and it's packed with people. it's 2am and everybody is fucked up on something. everyone is over-aware of how much noise they're making, especially with the SCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHKOOOOOOOOOOoooooop of the tank cutting through the room with each balloon, so they're screaming at each other to stop making so much noise. someone turns on the alarm clock radio, which is set to some Reno Camaro rock station. you know, to mask the sound of nitrous tanks and people screaming at each other. so now Crazy Train is blaring, people are screaming at each other to stop making so much noise, and every 30 seconds you hear SCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHKOOOOOOOOOOoooooop. i was prone to paranoia on this particular night, so i'm just waiting for the Nevada state police to burst through the door at any moment like a bunch of nightstick wielding KoolAid men. every few minutes i'd say 'hey man you wanna head back to the room?' and his reply for about an hour was 'one more balloon'. dude must have killed 20 balloons sitting on the edge of that queen bed. i'd have bailed and left him there if i thought he'd ever make it back to the hotel room.

we struck up a conversation with our neighbor (Noel) at the motel right when we checked in. he asked us how we knew each other, and when we told him we met via phook he mentioned that he lurks every once in a while. then he started talking about different phookers from a lurkers point of view. it was pretty funny. Noel ended up hanging out with us more than his friends that weekend. we told him that he should create a 'NoelNHL4lyfe' login at phook, which he did a few days after the Tahoe run. didn't stick around long, but it was fun.

Love you brother. I hope you're reading this somewhere up in the ether. Wish we would've gotten together like we spoke about just a few weeks ago. I'll always remember the east coast shows. Phish, and whatever else we'd drag you to back in the day. Or your coming over my house in queens to chill til the early morning. Rest easy, Coz.

maybe the 2nd time meeting Coz, we were going to a (PAGE CARPET) Yonder show in Lancaster PA. Coz drove up and met us at the bar and we didn't want want to drive to the show, so he volunteered to drive us. He didn't have a ticket and was going to put a little effort into trying to score one. 5 of us pile into his little blue car. Had to be a Chevy Aveo or something. 2006ish? WTF model was it? I mocked him for missing 2 rims on a hampster mobile but that's not the point. The point? He dropped us off at the door, said he was gonna park and find a ticket. I got a text 5 minutes later that he hit a police horse with his car and was heading home before they found him. I know this isn't' true but I want to believe it

I never met him personally. The only stories I have to share are conversations I had with him here on the board. Him and I seemed to have had a parallel existence in many ways. Him and I went to many of the same Grateful Dead shows. We went to the exact same amount of shows also, 79.

We usually seemed to end up talking about experiences that happened on the lot. One of them was the time I met Jerry and the parking lot while I was selling devil sticks.

Sometimes I would even be talking about and experience I had on tour or person and he would chime in and say he remembered that person or experience.

I know he was hooked in with the Philly crew many years ago. I always wanted to meet him. Oh well I guess I'll meet him on the other side.

I first met Pete at Phatty Campout #1 in PA, must have been around 12 years ago? Probably longer... Someone? Had a helluva time, we hit it off instantly. Met up with him at a few shows over the years and at a few other Phook gatherings. We had talked about hooking up in CT for a Max Creek show, but had yet to pull the trigger on that. Great guy, I'm glad to have had the chance to get to know him a little bit.

He used to send me the weirdest txts during my divorce stage. It would go on for hours and i would check the flip phone 1st thing in the morning because some of the best ones would always be after I passed out.

:o

I would've guessed crack

I posted my Coz story in the RIP thread, but here it is again.

I was 16 or 17 and seeing the New Deal at BB Kings. Coz and Phlow knew I was gonna be there, so they made a point of finding me and my HS buddies. They hung with us all night and even bought us a beer or two. We found out later that the two of them did so much molly, they had no vision. How they found me, I'll never know. We joked about "no vision" all the time after that show. I wish I could see that scene unfold from someone else's point of view, so I could see how weird it must have been for two grown ass men blown out on molly to be hanging out with 3-4 teenagers. Coz didn't give a shit. I'll miss that dude.

He was also possibly the only person to ever fully appreciate how much I love the band Everclear. I have no real story about this except that when the Art Alexakis fake death thread was posted he was quick to ask if anyone had checked on me. If Pete heard me tell this story he would tell me to shut the fuck up because it was obviously going nowhere.

Not much of a story, but the only time I got to meet Coz was pre-gaming for a Shoreline Phish show. Crack was there, as was MBTeahouse and stella1707 (has anyone told her about this yet?)

Rocked some Pliny and had some fun. I said something that made him laugh, and still can remember the laugh...he seemed like he had a lot of joy in his heart, for whatever unjoy he lived with based on PMS and other conversations on this board.

I will echo crack's comments about finding drugs in a monastery...I lost crack and him that night while he was deployed as a heat seeking drug finding missile (I assume he succeeded.)

Pete used to messenger me when I first joined phishhook in 2001/2 and we were both in same boat: unemployed, not in a great state of mind, and he really helped me feel not alone. I think he reached out to so many of us over the years
.
.. glad to have finally meet him in 2013 and hang last summer in Hartford

rest easy, brother.

Me, Pete and Barry went to this show not long before he moved to Florida:
Quote:
Reading , PA
SET 1: Cars Trucks Buses, Stealing Time From the Faulty Plan, Ginseng Sullivan, Wolfman's Brother, Sparkle > Walk Away, Divided Sky, Split Open and Melt[1] > Julius

SET 2: Down with Disease [1] > Taste, Twenty Years Later
The jam breaks away from the standard around 7:45, passing through a "The Birds"-like jam before becoming funky and rocking with some great Page B-3 action. The jam brightens in sentiment briefly before > to "Piper."
> Piper > Backwards Down the Number Line, You Enjoy Myself, Grind

ENCORE: Bouncing Around the Room > Reba, Good Times Bad Times

[1] Unfinished.

This show turned into some kind of opposite-land where I drove, we scored fake drugs, 20 Years Later was a highlight, and I made him stay through the whole encore and he later admitted that he enjoyed it.

Nothing crazy because he was with his Mom.

Springsteen show a couple of years ago and he texted me and asked where I was and I told him outside tailgating. He wanted me to come on in so I did and found our seats which was literally about 20 feet from him and his Mom. There was an older lady sitting there by herself and I decided that must be his mom.

Few minutes later he walks in and sits by her so I walk up and say "Are you Pete?" and he gives me a stare like I will rip your head off until I introduce myself.

Sit down with them (still about 1 hour before showtime) and chat. His Mom said it was her 2nd show and I said it was my first. Coz says she means it was her 2nd show ever and says tell him who your first show was and it was Barry Manilow. I lolled and said well you gonna love this show.

Went for a smoke with him and chatted about Florida phookers a bit and he asked if I knew THC. I said no never even seen that name. It was then that I learned it was thsea. Stayed in touch with from that day on thru phone and text. We always planned to meet up again and it never happened. I guess mostly my fault.

Fucking fuck
Met him at Spencefest and we spoke briefly
Met up again when I was traveling for work near Exton Pa a few years back. He came to my hotel, we BSd for a few minutes, then went to his car in the parking lot and he got me quite high. We're sitting in his car listening to Zappa, I'm out of my gourd, and my square as shit co worker out of nowhere comes walking by. I laid the seat back trying to hide from her, he's just cracking up. We go back into my room, presumably to gather my shit before grabbing a beer, and I'm an mess, staring at the TV just a mess. After 20 minutes he looks at me and says Ok well I'm gonna let you be alone. I mumbled thanks and
he left. Next day I texted him "so uh sorry about that but thanks, catch you soon", he made a point to call me later that day and said no worries glad I could make your trip to PA memorable. He would PM me every time I'd tell that story here, just to say LOL one of the oddest meet ups ever.
RIP Coz, you'll be missed brother.

i was actually going to say 'this should be his epitaph', but honestly i think he should be cremated and Johnny Depp should shoot his ashes out of a shotgun

He got me really, really fucking high at the phishsweden meetup & was such a nice person. He advised me to "Coz" the second set after I told him my wife could have a baby at any time. I took his advice & left. She went into labor a couple hours after I got home. Doctors had told my wife that she wouldn't have the baby for at least a week, but Coz knew.

Oh man.
So I was there in Tahoe.
I don't have much to say outside of that but damn did we have a good time.

Coz also said, "hey... You wanna meet [phooker]". I said yes. That phooker and I fell in love and my life was irrevocably changed. I wouldn't change a thing.
Tahoe was a weird period in my life, I was nursing a very broken heart and Coz and Crack kept me afloat in ways they may never know.

I thank Coz for Tahoe, for unintentionally introducing me to the love of my life(as it stands today) and for being an amazing person. Coz was one of the good ones. And I cherish that time every day.

This community has meant so much to me and it breaks my heart to lose amazing people.

So here's to Tahoe. Here's to Coz. Here's to vibrating with love and light.

I love you all.

if you mentioned that a certain GD show was your first or favorite GD show, or if they played your favorite version of a particular song on a certain date he could recall it 10 years later

i think this was at the hampton comeback shows...

he came up out of the crowd as we were nearing shakedown and he said, 'hey man, give me some heroin.' and i was like, 'ummm, i don't have any heroin.' and he said, 'well have you heard anyone slinging it back there?' and i said, 'no man, sorry.' and he gave lope a big hug, told her she looked great, called me a fucking custie, and disappeared back into the crowd.

I usually don't post shit like this but reading these threads made me realize how many of you he texted, spoke with etc off of Phook...I'm glad you did because I never had the patience for him later in life - thnx barry LOL

Coz and I went to same high school and lived in same town, we were very close - we saw over 100 shows together and traveled everywhere - he introduced me to Phook - I have so many stories I could tell (like getting kicked off plane heading down to Cypress for smoking butts in bathroom) but I wont sit here and recount...I like photos

still mad - dude has a LTL

he was a great friend...

...older brother

...music mentor

...an annoying fuck

...Eddie Haskell (showing my age - my folks loved him no matter his troubles)

...family

...a moody fuck

...a know it all

...dead date machine (later I started beating him with Phish)

...my concert buddy

I knew this day would come sooner than later - Im sorry your friends could not help more...RIP buddy - troubled souls unite...

There's a lot of awesome right there, Paulie.
Love to you and your Massapequa buddies.

The right words won't come to me, but in the spirit of celebrating all that was Pete, I'm just gonna say...

:heartbeating: :heartbeating: :heartbeating: Thank you, for a real good time :heartbeating: :heartbeating: :heartbeating:
