Fuck ! How did I forget this story.

Ok the night Michael Jackson died or the next night Coz texted me to see what I'm doing. We decide to meet up on South Street Philly....Ratso, you might have been around for a minute. The whole street is blasting MJ in every bar and club, people on the second floors had speakers turned out towards the street. Shit was LIT. We of course need DR00GZ. I get in my car and we go to meet someone. I take a turn too sharp and hit a car at like 5mph. Dude and his dad who turned out to be Phish fans start flipping out. Their car has bumper damage, my jeep is fucked from front to back. Somehow Coz is talking this kid's ear off about shows and we leave with just exchanging phone numbers because we were drinking and the guy was cool. (yes, I know) Anyway, We decide to park the car and get a cab to drive us around. Cabbie takes us to a strip club and we wait forever. Coz says fuck this and we go inside the club looking for this guy we just gave $100. We found the cabbie and he says he still waiting and we up staying there for like 2 hours with our cabbie. When leaving Coz says give us our money back. Cabbie was honest and said he spent it in there and totally lost track of time....as did we. Coz says get your boys out here with something or lets turn on the meter and make some money. Dude gets his buddy and we do lines for an hour in the cab parked at a strip club. We start going back to my jeep and the cabbie forgets where he picked us up at and I also forgot. So we go back to Coz's car and start driving around south Philly til like 7am and finally found it all fucked up and by now someone has tagged it with a marker and broke the window and went through all my shit. Coz says see if it starts. It does and we just smiled at each other and went our ways.

Damn. Didn't want to believe this news was real when I saw the thread. I can't say I can specifically reference a time meeting him but I sure as hell recognize him and there is no doubt we crossed paths over the years. RIP Coz.

I guess I can tell this entire story now...

Pete comes to my house to stay for a weekend or three days or so. He pulls up and I'm helping him get his bags from the trunk of his car when he asks 'can you score any drugs?' I say of course I can, what're you in the mood for? He says uppers and I ask how far up he wants to go.

'Can you get crystal?'...
Yeah
Without too much trouble?
I wish it were harder to get, honestly...

So twenty minutes later we had a couple grams of glass and went to the gas station and bought a pipe or three.

We went back to my house and started playing cards, listening to tunes and passing the pipe. People kept stopping by, playing cards and night turned into day. We're up the whole next day and we were in my front yard and I hear music in the distance and remember that Peter Frampton is playing at an ampitheater about mile away.

The ampitheater is in a park and you can hear the music fine from the park so that's what we were gonna do. Just chill in the park for a minute and listen.

There are railroad tracks that run behind the ampitheater with a little bit of woods between the tracks and the fence to the ampitheater. We decide to walk down the tracks for better sound, or more likely so we could hit the pipe.

So we're in the woods listening to Peter Frampton and I say to pete... what's stopping us from hopping this fence right now? There were food vendors set up across the fence which blocked the view to the fence. Or so we thought.

Pete doesn't miss a beat.. he drops the pipe on the ground and in a flash is over the fence past the food vendors and at the top of the lawn in the venue.

No sooner than I process what just happened two people walk back behind the food trucks so I faded back in the trees to wait them out.

Pete is waiting for me and after a few minutes I'm able to get his attention and let him know I'm waiting on these people to leave.

Just then a uniformed police officer grabbed pete by the arm pulled a flashlight out and lit me up in the trees. He told me I could meet my friend at the gate. Cool.

So I do and we laugh it off after getting scolded by the cop. We hang out to listen to another song or two. They covered 'black hole sun' instrumentally which was pretty cool.

So we're coz'ing out early and I run into two friends that are walking out of the gate pete had just been escorted out of. I ask if they still have their tickets and if so can I have them. They did and handed them over.

There's no reentry at this venue but we just blew through the gate holding 'our' tickets up and moved too fast to answer any questions.

They were lawn tickets but pete said he was gonna see if he could get down to the stage.. I just chilled on the lawn. About twenty minutes later he came back and said he got all the way down. I asked if he got kicked out and he said no, wanna go?

So down we go to the pit. Pete is taking a picture and security comes up and said not to take pictures then but that during the next song he would let us on the stage and we could take all the pics we wanted.

So the last song was 'do you feel like we do'... about the only Frampton song I know. Security motions for pete and I to get on stage and we are standing between some monitors about 15-20 feet from frampton. I posted a video earlier. I wish I had recorded more but pete bumped me and I thought he wanted his phone. He was just dancing. :)

So we went back to my house. Smoked some more and played cards until the next morning. We're starting to crash at this point and Pete says 'we need more drugs'. I said 'I know where a fully loaded pipe is about a mile from here'. His eyes got big.

He drove me over there and by this point I'm down a flip flop somehow. So here I am at 7am walking down the train tracks on one flip flop and one bare foot. I found the pipe and up we went again.

I'd like to think that was his last encore and it was memorable in spades.

RIP brother.

Holy shit that story is amazing.

Not the meth part. That part is sketchy. But the rest of it is awesome.

Wonder who would admit to using meth if it were even asked? LOL.

Methampthetamine is a drug. Some people can handle it. Most can't (eventually).

I enjoy eating and sleeping too much to go too far down that road. But sure, I'll admit to having tried it. More than a couple times.

And for the record... to my knowledge Pete wasn't a regular meth user either. I just told a story the way it happened.

Ha! I have a similar story.

We met in Tuscaloosa in 2015 after he PM'd me when we talked about a meetup on Phishhook. We met in the lot before the show, before other Phookers showed up. It was pretty hot that day so he asked if we could sit in my car and crank the AC, so of course we did.

When the other Phookers showed up and we sat on camp chairs behind my car, he got his first good look at Mrs Schof: "Hel-lo, beautiful! How you doin'?" She was great about it and talked with him.

Mrs Schof and I went to our assigned seats for the first set but I got a text or call from Coz at set break asking to spend second set together, which we did and the show was 100x more fun. Pete was pointing out set antics I never noticed "Now watch: Mike is going to do THIS and Trey will do this." and they did.

He split at the encore, of course, and I saw him leaving the lot as we were walking in. His driver's side window was down, I walked over, we shook hands said "see you soon!" and he drove off into the Alabama night.

No crazy drugs or cops or antics that night, but a good time all around. RIP, Coz.

No crazy drugs or cops or antics that night, but a good time all around. RIP, Coz.

Ha. I hung out with Coz before the show(I'm the tool in the middle of that pic).

He texted me while I was on the way in and asked, where are the heavy drugs at?" That made me laugh that my ass off though he was probably serious. He went out of his way to find me before the show, couldn't have been nicer. He's been that way every time I've hung out with him. He will be missed, such a bummer.

First time I met Coz and Paulie was at Knitting Factory in 2002. I think I was the first non-pequa phishhooker to meet the two of them. Ted was with me also. Many many fun times followed that first time meeting. Loved kicking it in Queens with him when he was living in LI. He used to come over to my place, we'd play guitar (he could play pretty well), party til the wee hours pretty much every time. I'll cherish those memories.

Oh man...I think some of the best coz stories shouldn't even be repeated on here. I think the craziest time was us chilling all night long in Philly, then I traveled to NYC to hang with Phlow and Gugs (on barely any sleep) to see Panic at Radio City. It was a while ago and maybe one of the times we really hung out together.

Thanks for posting that pic of us from Fest 8, Phlow. I don't know where any of my old pics are anymore. Myspace?

Bill for a minute I thought you were gonna say that y'all got in the car and he started blowing lines off the dash or something. That would have been hilarious

Wish I got to hang with him at some point. Not a chance I could party with him but he sounds like he was a fun dude even when drugs weren't involved.

Ha, no. The only thing we blasted that day was the AC.

I found our brief text conversation from that day. It's telling that I had never met Coz in person before, never even heard his voice. We only communicated via Phishhook and text, but when I was having dinner with my wife before the show, I offered to bring him something.

He had that way with people, or maybe it was just my view of it; he didn't ask for much, but the kind of guy he was, you just wanted to buy him a beer or a sandwich, not out of charity, but because you got to spend a little more time with someone who was a whole lot of fun.

Love reading these stories and seeing the pictures. Two quick ones I remember:

The first time I went to his house, he took me up to his bedroom to show me his music collection or guitars. While we were up here, his mom came home and was loudly banging around the first floor then stomped up the stairs, yelling PETE I'M HOME. I had the impression that she was trying to give him and (whoever) enough time to get dressed, kind of funny as we were both around 40 and heterosexual.

I took Pete to Camden to meet Spence for the first night at one of the Dead off-shoot shows, Further, TOO, the Dead? As usual when we went to see a concert, I drove, mainly because I hoped to make it home safely at the end of the night. The whole way there, he was evaluating his pharmacological options and it looked like he was eating skittles with all the various colored pills. I knew roughly where to meet Spence in the lot and as we got close, Pete called to find his exact location. Spence joked he was "near a car with Dead music blasting". Pete hung up without replying. I parked a few rows over from them and we headed that way on foot. Just as we got close, Pete spotted some balloons a few rows over and made a beeline for them. I told him to meet me where Spence and Roxroses were standing not far away. A few minutes later, Pete came floating directly past us, balloons in both hands and feet barely touching the ground. He finally made it back to us and it was a lot of fun watching Pete and Spence try to figure each other out. Both had very big but very different personalities.

I forget what show we saw @ the TLA, but we cut out early (of course) and got some balloons in a nearby alley There weren't enough ppl buying balloons, so the nitrous mafia were getting ready to pack it up. So after a little haggling, we bought the tank. Pete asked for a discount because he claimed it wasn't high enough medical grade. Then he convinced the mafia let us borrow their suitcase to transport the tank. Just picture the two of us walking out of an alley with a huge suitcase (nothing suspicious about that  )

We brought the tank back to my place and worked that tank. It took the rest of the nite and the entire next day, but we managed to kill it. We spaced it out. We'd have some beers, suck down some balloons, smoked, sucked down some balloons, watched the comedy channel, suck down some balloons, had breakfast, sucked down more balloons. Can't imagine what the neighbors were thinking with all that hissing.

Then we called the mafia and returned the tank like how ppl return a keg. Pete

Dude was a legend.

Me too. Didn't even know they played Dazed and Confused until I got the show on the LP app.

Can we pin this thread permanently? Pete was so huge to this site. I didn't know him as well in person but damn he meant a lot to so many of us.

I wish I knew him better and had more stories to tell. He was a good dude to so many of us and pretty selfless from all accounts.

To ease my soul...
