The court has extended the hold on this law until at least the 21st so people coming to northerly island don't worry about getting gouged.

Well I am being nice.

Maybe I should bring some Indiana cigarettes to sell in the lots. A pack of Marlboros in Chicago is over $12.

Newtax is in effect today.

Grocery stores in Cook County have had their shelves emptied yesterday and now there are a few people looking to stage a tea party by dumping beverages now taxed in the Chicago River.

Now the county is looking to countersue the group that brought the suit that delayed the implementation of the new tax,at the tune of $20 million.

The county has dropped their lawsuit.

But both Walgreens and McDonald's are being sued for inappropriately applying the tax, claiming fraud.

This is the dumbest fucking thing. for 2 stores I have to version print, digital and everything. Vendors are just increasing their prices to the vendor and we're passing it on to the customer.

That is not surprising at all. Everyone needs their share and the consumer always pays for it.

The feds are now having an issue with this. They are threatening to cut off $87 million of food stamps.

Apparently the county offers an instant refund of the tax to food stamp payments but it is illegal to tax it in the first place.

The county expected to make $9,000,000 from this in August, they brought in $300,000. Under 4%.

Good job helping neighboring counties everybody

I couldn’t care less about this. I don’t drink beverages subject to the tax and if I do it’s like a dollar.

Agreed, and soon. Was discussing that with coworkers yesterday, it makes the most sense. The sooner the better as that will solve a lot of funding issues. Wait and it will be less effective.

Eh.

Everything south of 111th St might as well be Missouri. Gonna be a tough sell to those inbreds.

The tax is officially no longer going to be collected starting at midnight.

Free at last, etc
