I just love kicking back on the porch with a Habanaos and watching Mayer rip!

I've only watched the tour opener (1st night MSG) and last night.

Both were great!

I thought the show was so-so. They’ve def been better. Mayer was heavy with the trumpet sound - didn’t always mesh. Althea and Sugaree were really good. Milestones was a fun treat. Always a fun night with the band and friends. Old man Bob still brings it.

We were going to when we thought it was on Wednesday. Then realized it was Friday and that won't work for us :(

Jack Straw – JM missing from mix first half of song; sounds fine, not great. JM very low in mix thereafter. Band waiting for JM to take off, never comes. Jeff has some nice licks.

Speedway – above average; very good, very fun. Very bluesy. I remember thinking that this band is best when it sticks to heavy blues. Bob screaming out “This darkness has got to give” was spine-tinging.

Althea – really solid. JM rips and the band fell in behind.

1/2 Step – nothing memorable.

Big River – The Lorax can still belt this one out. Guy’s been playing this song for 45 years and he can still get down with it. Such a fun song.

Sugaree – JM has slayed this one in Boston the last three tours. Another great version.

TMNS – meh. Never went anywhere.

Scarlet – ok, not great. Started solid, petered out.

Fire – glad to get an Oteil song. Similar to Scarlet – started strong, flattened out 2/3s through.

He’s Gone – amazing. They circled back around through the “He’s gone…” chorus a few times.

Viola – big hopes, flat throughout.

Drums/Space –

Milestones – my gf turned and said “This is straight jazz” about 2 minutes in. Didn’t recognize it at the time, but seeing the credit to Miles Davis makes sense.

Wheel – first half was so-so. Had once nice peak, got flat…but…then they found a groove and fucking segued into…

Won’t You Try (Just a Little Bit Harder) – Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons? Doesn’t appear on the setlist, but I swear they played it, lol. Nutso. Whole place rocked and swayed…Bob belting belting belting backing vocals. Fun surprise. Nice to see all the ladies belting it out and dancing along.

Sugar Mag – it was what it was. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve seen Dead-related bands close with this. JM did really rip the Sunshine Daydream

Ripple – nice to hear. JM acoustic. Not memorable, but a nice way to end the show.

///

Initial thoughts – B/B-. On re-listen, B+. Overall not amazing, but some great nuggets throughout. Will def give a few listens. I need to list to the MSG shows for comparison. I image Sunday in Boston will be good.

Had a wonderful night. Everyone got pie-eyed, everyone was safe, every one had fun. Spent a ton of cash, but well worth it (and needed!) for a fun night out.

Feel Like A Stranger
Black Throated Wind

Both on the want to hear list this evening. I am fine with whatever else.

Being DC, I am sure a Liberty gets played and Throwing Stones.

Bertha is due. I’m curious what they will open the second set with. The standards have been done recently - China > rider, scar>fire, etc.

free tickets are the best, hard not to have a good time. I just went to the Broncos game on Sunday with free tickets from my boss, same deal, 4 club level tickets with vip parking. Broncos are terrible and lost their 6th in a row and I still had a great time.

Likewise. My buddy has already sent me some passive aggressive texts about me being unavailable to go. I hope you have a good show. For me I hope its a setlist that sucks!
