My dad's old house he built in 1991 up the hill from Luther burbank (up mark west springs > crystal etc) is gone. I'm kind of in shock.

Doesn’t Dave Schools live in Sebastopol now? Hopefully the fire doesn’t go west.

My parents are in Sonoma near Boyes. They did have to leave but left this morning to escape the smoke (dad went through chemo this year). Super sad seeing all the photos roll through. Hope they get this shit contained.

My parents returned home this evening. The house is fine. A couple of big limbs fell off a tree from the wind but nothing major. There's still a fire burning a couple miles from their place. But thy felt safe enough that they wanted to be home to ride it out. It looks like they're gonna be ok. But man my FB feed is crazy depressing right now. I know so many people that have lost everything.

This happening at like 2am is what wigs me out. My parents were getting calls but had do not disturb on and didnt wake up until the morning. Luckily thing bad happened to them, but it could have. Fires move fast in the savanna-like environment of those valleys.

Been a frustrating wait for updates...all the fire maps are like 24 hrs old....they tell us 0% containment but no real discussion of where existing fires are.

News is on 24/7 replay of the same videos of yesterday morning.

1/3 of Santa Rosa still under evacuation.

1500 homes burned so far.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your community Santa Rosa area Phookers and their friends/family. Love to you all. This is shocking to see from afar, I can't imagine what it would be like to see it in person and have such devastating loss.

Thanks. My dad is really shaken as his old house prior to the one I already mentioned has burned down too. They are like 8 miles apart.

those missing people..... those guys are mostly just out of contact, right?

I hate to think there might be an additional 540 dead people

There was another large area evacuated last night so it most likely is a huge amount of people just being out of contact and unreachable. A lot of cell towers are down besides just power and cable lines.

I think there will be a significant amount of missing folks found dead from the first initial fires...those came through so fast no one had much time or warning. But at this point everyone is on high alert...I doubt this huge jump in missing folks will have many deaths.

Right, for example, one of those 500+ missing is one of my friend's 98 year old grandpa. He was in an assisted living facility out at Oakmont. They know he was evacuated yesterday, but they have no idea where they took him! He doesn't have a cell phone. So they've been driving around to all the shelters in Santa Rosa today just looking for him. He's probably ok, but that must be terrifying.

super smokey at work (which is closer to everything than our house). Bunch of coworkers just left to clear out there places because they're probably going to be evacuated.

my coworker's daughter's home is completely gone - lost everything. So so sad...

People that talk shit about the USPS don't know what they're talking about. Super reliable, (for me) hardly ever problems, and pretty fast. Can't say the same about UPS always have problems with them. Also it's in the constitution

the air quality is just atrocious. and n-95 masks are sold out everywhere and amazon-1-day shipping for any to our area is estimated to take at least 5 days.

it's hard to not worry. I wish I could get some masks....
