When this is all over BD will probably wind up being my favorite that Phish has ever done. The hey hole stuff was great for Phish in the 90's, the space boomerang jams were great for Phish in the later 90's, the evil groove stuff in the 2000's... For Phish where they are today, this is way beyond what I was hoping to hear out of them. When I think of late career renaissances where a band transcended what it should be doing it would be the Dead in 1990 and Springsteen during the final ten nights of the 2016 US leg of the river tour. Where they achieved a greatness that you can look back to earlier highlights in their careers and find an equivalent.

For the first time in 3.0 Trey has been a consistent MVP in terms of patience, creativity, and just flat out letting it rip. And the rest of the band are playing to each other's strengths and masking any weaknesses. Other than the donut gimmick there's no reason this sort of playing should stop after tomorrow night. They're clearly still capable of doing anything they want and crushing it on a nightly basis.

Ive seen 7 shows and this is BY FAR not the best they've done - the shows are all the same jam

wow no repeats - Phish has lost it - wast of $$$$$$$$$$

You're right. Here's hoping it doesn't take a gimmick to bring it out in the future.

I wasn't there. I listened to it on mixlr. The second set was okay. Nothing great.

Just my opinion. Bring on Boston tonight.

So the people who went to the show are hating on it and those of us who listened at home loved it.

The universe has inverted itself.

I'm listening to the SASS and I can't hear average anywhere. Same with the Caspian.

Man, art really is subjective.

I just listened to the 2nd set. Nothing special.

not sure why anyone would put this show near the top of the BD shows. It seems to belong in the bottom third

That Caspian had one of the biggest peaks of the entire BD run.

Are we listening to the same show?

i do think y'all were hyping that second set a bit much
everything's right > wtu was at times bad, at times just another wtu with a slow part in the middle with some quotes

it was 8/17/11 with some better jams

Caspian used to be a piss break so now even though they are shredding it, it will always be a piss break for some people.

Personally I used to dread caspian, now I don't mind because they're putting some fire into it.

Do I go into any show wishing for it? Of course not.

But it's not the seat clearer it once was.

Love how people are analyzing the fishman vocals on the RH cover

It's like yea no shit, the vocals were bad, they know fishman is a bad singer, they let him sing anyway. It's kinda what they always have done

calling it great though is odd - was the great gig in the sky ever great? it was funny, yes. but never great.

I'm with Brian...that was killer Phish.

A flowing psychedelic set of live music...covers never have to be entirely reverent and fine with Fishman vocals...loved the way they kept weaving it into the set, there was some powerful improv, Caspian ripped, (reflexively hating on Caspian after the jam treatment it has gotten the last few years is silly), and the Fluffhead peak brought the house down.

Definitely a top tier donut set.

Phlows trying too hard.

The consensus will end up being this is a top tier set...but they're will always be contrarians.

Maybe your expectations of a rh cover by phish are a bit high BUT I agree with all that you've said pretty much.

Like that helps your cause

I can respect that.

Must be tough hitting these shows.

I know I thought of him several times last weekend when I was there and we were only phone pals.

This would be like me trashing on the entire 7/16/99 Holdmel show because of the Born to Run cover at the end. Which I thought was both terrible and funny at the time.
